Description

Quasar Type B Obstruction Light Flashing Red 2000 cd

The Quasar Type B obstruction light is a night beacon with flashing red output. It is built for operators of masts, chimneys and buildings above 45 m, where low intensity beacons no longer meet the requirement. Thirty-six OSRAM LEDs produce 2000 cd at 3 degrees while the unit draws only 45W.

Benefits

  • Recognised flashing signal: the flashing red output matches medium intensity Type B beacons in ICAO Annex 14, chapter 6, table 6.3.
  • 45W maximum draw: more than six times less than the white daytime beacons in the same series.
  • Self-starting: the built-in twilight sensor brings the beacon on as darkness falls.
  • Flexible supply: 110-230V AC at 50/60Hz, or 12V, 24V and 48V DC for battery and solar systems.
  • Built for mast tops: IP65, IK10 and an electrostatically painted extruded aluminium body.
  • Light for its class: a maximum of 6 kg in a 303 x 240 mm envelope.

Applications and installation

The Quasar Type B obstruction light marks aviation obstacles above 45 m at night: telecom masts, industrial chimneys, buildings and wind turbines. Mount it on a horizontal surface at the top of the structure and wire it to the supply you already have on site. Add a white Type A beacon for daytime marking, or specify the combined A/C model instead. The IP65 body resists dust and driven rain on exposed sites; keep the ambient rating of -20 to +40 degrees C in mind when planning enclosure positions.

Frequently asked questions

How does it differ from Type C? Type B flashes red, Type C is steady red. Both deliver 2000 cd and both are intended for night use.

Do I need a separate photocell? No. The twilight sensor is built into the beacon.

What does it consume? A maximum of 45W, at any of the accepted voltages: 110-230V AC or 12/24/48V DC.
